Oh yeah, not only made it through - had a hard time putting it down. Shirer's prose style is still fresh today. Good one, crossing lines between spy novel, historical/geographical primer on lands touching the Danube, and a well thought out cynical view of the Soviet secret police NKVD in the years leading up to and through the Second World War. Character development is somewhat cartoonish but that's the spy novel genre for you I suppose. Enjoyable and well paced. ]]>
