So far, so good....enjoy following the stories of the women from the original book Friday Night Knitting Club, and Knit Two. I am glad to be reading it now, since the setting is during the holiday season. The narration goes back and forth in time and reveals the relationship between Georgia (a significant character in the books) and the women in her life, including her daughter. Not as heavy a read as the previous book I read (Push). Enjoying it so far.

This book was not an easy read. It is written in black dialect, so it takes some effort to follow it, but well worth the energy. A riveting story of the struggles of a poor black teenager, the victim of sexual and physical abuse from her own parents. It is not a "feel good" book, but very intense, yet difficult to put down. Now I really want to see the movie because I have heard that it is a realistic portrayal of the events depicted in the book.

I am about to start reading this book with some trepidation. I am curious to see the movie and wanted to read the book first. The movie appears to be very difficult to watch, although riveting to the audience. I hope I can stick with it.

This is a cute, and very funny memoir by Jen Lancaster. She links every important phase in her life with the clothes she held dear, and depicts her "coming of age" in girl world as she realizes how we identify ourselves by our images. Very poignant and funny, and very true to some extent.

Interesting memoir of another child star who turned to drugs after the fame receded. Sad story, especially when I remember the cute little girl who entertained my own kids as they grew up with the catch-phrases "How rude!" and "Pin a rose on your nose!" I guess even the family togetherness depicted on Full House could not save all of its stars in real life. I hope Jodi Sweetin stays sober and drug free for the sake of her family, and of her sweet little girl.

Cathy, this is a great book. I read it last year and it really gives an insight into how domestic help is viewed during the 1960s in the South. Great absorbing read and interesting to see different points of view! Enjoy1

AngieA wrote: "Any body know anything about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series? I guess a movie is coming out. My kids are older (20s) so I haven't heard about these til now. It is much easier to read, particularly for reluctant readers, because there are illustrations on each page, and the theme is universal....how kids make sense of their lives and the people around them. There was just a book fair at my school, and they couldn't keep these books on the tables. I have seen kids in all the grades carry these books around, and even some of the kids with whom I work can't wait to read them; these are kids who are 2 or 3 years below grade level in reading. The beauty of the series is that it appeals to 1st graders through 4th graders alike, and it is encouraging indifferent readers to read!

I loved the Betsy, Tacy and Tib books and I grew up on Long Island! When my husband were at Barnes and Noble the other night, I saw that there was a reissue of some of the later books in the series when Betsy was in high school and when she got married! I didn't dare buy it then; my husband would have thought I was nuts, but if I see them again when I am alone, I may just have to buy the whole series so I can relive my childhood...lol! I'm not sure kids of today would like those books; couldn't get my daughter to read them when she was little (she is 22 now, and has rediscovered her love for reading with the Twilight series). Many of the books I enjoyed as a child are a bit dated now, but there are many new interesting books which are motivating kids to read. I work in an elementary school as an inclass support assistant, and I am glad that kids are starting to enjoy books again!

Great account of what really happened at Columbine, from the perspective of time. Written a decade after the horrifying events, many myths and untruths are revealed. This book reads like a novel, and offers insight into the events leading up to the tragedy. The two perpetrators are analyzed and it is terrifying that so many signs were missed or ignored. Great book on a terrible tragedy!
