I love Lahiri's work, and while I liked this book, I don't think it's as good as her first two. It lacked the beauty and magic I became accustomed to, and her style also started to seem a little more monotonous than usual.
I also can't help saying that I met her in Philadelphia for a book signing, and she was, to put it bluntly, a bitch. She acted like it was a waste of time to answer people's questions after her reading and didn't want to smile or be gracious while signing books. She barely looked at me when I told her how much my students enjoy her short stories, and muttered "thank you" with such a fake smile I thought I was watching a movie about mean girls. So I'm going to try not to let that get in the way of my reaction to her work from now on, but it will be hard.
**A second note: I just started reading some of these stories again and I do really like them. Her writing is so divine, it's like eating a delicate meal with an incredible wine. (How's that for a lot of adjectives?)
