Pretty much what you would expect from a parody about Steve Jobs. This was a story with no real depth or powerful theme, but fun to read nonetheless. Daniel Lyons, the real author (his name is not Fake Steve Jobs), began a blog about Fake Steve Jobs a few years ago, and the idea morphed into this. Lyons' greatest feat is making the events from the story seem very real. Despite the fact that the situations he was describing were almost completely ridiculous, it doesn't take much to believe that they could actually occur. Maybe Steve Jobs really does fire people for having a delivery van the wrong shade of white. Perhaps he really does hand out iPod shuffles to homeless people asking for money. Who's to say he doesn't, I mean he "invented the friggin' iPod." Options is full of laughs and the story line creates enough suspense to make you wonder what will happen next. Definitely worth your time to check out....less

A very quick read, this was an enjoyable story of how The Replacemnts' defining record effected the life of Colin Meloy, singer of The Decembrists. The 33 1/3 series published by Continuum is a seried of books that each chronicles an influential album in the history of rock and roll. Each one is written by a different author and takes a very different perspective as to how the record was influential. While some are very technical, breaking down the number of beats per minute and the keys the songs are in, Meloy chooses instead to talk about his teenage years listening to the album. In fact, the large part of the book is spent telling stories that have absolutely nothing to do with the Replacements. In some ways this is disappointing because I learned almost nothing about the band or the album that I didn't already know. On the other hand, Meloy's story relates exactly why we listen to music. The truth is that there aren't a whole lot of rock albums that change the world on a large scale, but there hundreds that have changed people's lives. Let It Be helped a young Meloy discover punk rock and formed his desire to become a musician. Now he is the lead in a hugely successful band himself. Overall, the book wasn't great, but considering it was 100 pages of easy reading, it was worth my time....less
