Typically De Bernieres tale of love and loss. It's not my favourite by this author by a long way but I did enjoy reading this and rattled through it in a bit more than a week.

If you like this author then you will like this book.

This is a book I picked up after a friend raved about on his blog. Couldn't get on with it at all and gave up rather quickly, even for me. I generally try to stick with a book even if I'm not enjoying it.

I may revisit in the future.

I really struggled to get into this book, so much so that I gave up on it. I thought I would enjoy as I had loved previous works by this author, particularly Vurt.

Might venture back one day

I rather enjoyed this book. The way the author draws you into rooting for the main character. An aloof, misunderstood and disenfranchised young farmers son living in the heart of the North Yorks Moors. His love of his natural surroundings and his dog endear him to the reader despite the fact there are one or two clues to a more sinister undercurrent.

It paints a vivid picture of Sam's spiral into obsession and how his minor misdemeanours soon take him to a dark and troubled place. All wonderfully juxtaposed against the beautiful, if sometimes a little bleak, surroundings of North Yorkshire uplands.

A cracking read that I rattled through in a couple of days.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a very easy, almost simplistic, read and tells of Nige and Deano and the mess they get themselves when Nige runs over a Norwegian tourist.

The events and happenings are told in turn from each of our protagonists' viewpoints and it relishes in the mundane and its significance in Nige and Deanos' lives.

It's funny, chilling, at times cringeworthy and very touching.
