Thanks to Kubby I have developed an appreciation for graphic novels, or in this case, graphic memoir. Each panel of this riviting story is a breathtaking piece of art, all on it's own. I am enchanted by the skill of Tatsumi to bring me to a deep level of awareness that brings in such a satisfying combination of my being. My senses tingle as I am enveloped by the visual experience of his art, hear the sound of cicadas, and am viscerally moved by my own emotions that accompany the intimate journey of this artist's life. A story which drew me into the depths of his emotional terrain, including the complexity of his relationships with his family, his self as a boy artist, all the way through to old age, along with the historical/political context of growing up in Japan after WWII and I also found interesting to know more about the origins of Japanese comics. I can't possibly say enough for the respect I have for this man and appreciation for his ability to bring me to a completely altared state.

Fun read! I had no idea about the history behind the breakfast cereal world of Kellogs, Post etc. Kellog had a sort of &quot;re-hab&quot; in Michigan for wealthy, unhappy people. This book follows the stories of several of the residents, and a sub plot details the scandalous world of the breakfast cereal industry and borders on being a thriller. Very cool book by a wit of a writer.

Continuing my current facination with Frank Lloyd Wright, this book is another fictionalized novel about the real life drama of this eccentric wildman. T.C. Boyle creates an intense, interesting read. He especially is able to nail the personality of Wright's second wife Miriam, a text book narcisist and I.V. drug addict, with chilling accuracy. The relationship development does not go as deeply as in Nancy Horan's novel &quot;Loving Frank&quot;, but Boyle does a good job of scratching the surface of the relationships between Wright and these women who were drawn to him.
<br/>Wright attracted and appreciated, radical women, way ahead of their time, these relationships took place in the early 1900s when brilliant, wild, radical, free thinking women were certainly in for a stressful(to say the least) existence. And of course tragedy is a theme.
