Sookie Stackhouse can't win for losing. Not enough to have one man pushing themselves on her, this book brings us Barry, Eric, Quinn, and Andre. Woah.
Sookie joins the Queen of Louisiana's entourage for the big vampire conference up near Chicago. She's willing to go to earn her keep and Quinn is planning various parts of the events. So she's looking for some sight seeing and some date time. What transpires is a convoluted crossing of plots involving love, rivalry, and murder plots.
Sookie goes as a witness to the death of the King of Arkansas. That's a huge factor in how she gets involved in a slew of the events taking place at the conference. It finds her getting all to close to some of the vampires, including Eric and Andre, the queens consort. Barry even makes a move or two on her.
Sookie's talent plays a key part here, but she also plays sleuth. Oddly enough, she seems to be the smartest one in the bunch for most of the book. At least it seems odd to me not being near the oldest, wisest, or for that matter the most educated.
There's plenty of action, intrigue, and even explosions. What's not great about the book is the sudden wrap up and all but writing everyone into their happy lives again. It's abrupt after a Sookie novel that's long for the series. That's all that keeps this from getting five stars in my book.
If you're a Sookie fan, you'll enjoy this, even if there is only one romantic scene.(less)
