So, I really like Jodi Picoult books, even if I have to emotionally vamp myself up to read them because despite them being amazing, they are always a little to realistic to be happy-go-lucky. Anyway, liked this book. I didn't give it more stars because I wanted a little more resolution at the end...it seemed to end a little abruptly for my taste.
It really reminded me of The Lovely Bones, but I felt like the story was more engaging and easier to dive into...a better narrative, if you will.
I also have a hard time reading about infidelity in marriage, (it's in the very beginning, so I promise I didn't ruin it for you) and so it makes me sad to see how marriages can fall apart so easily...yet it was good to see how forgiveness is also possible in marriage.
Lastly, the 14 year old daughter gets herself into some crazy party situations and the descriptions of the "sex games" that go on at these parties are pretty graphic, but then the rest of the book is incredibly tame and clean. It was shocking and disgusting to think that these "games" probably do go on at teenage parties...so Isabel isn't going to be let out of the house once she turns 12. :) Just kidding. Anyway, if you enjoy Jodi Picoult, you'll enjoy this....less

It's been forever since I read anything! I took a little reading break after Breaking Dawn and got too busy with life to get back into it. Fortunately, a client gave me a few paperbacks she was done with and this was one of them. A decent, predictable chick-lit. I enjoyed it, it was perfect for when Matt's on 24 hour call at the hospital. :) Very light and fun. I liked the interaction of the main characters and enjoyed her style of writing...a little bit of stream of consciousness without being too William Faulkner. :)...less

Matt couldn't believe that he had read a book that I hadn't...so he forced me to read Tuesdays with Morrie. Not that I was against it, it's just that I know Morrie dies (don't worry, you know that from page 1 so I didn't just ruin the whole book for you)and that made me sad and made me not want to read a book already knowing that it ends so sad. BUT, it was worth it. What an amazing man that Morrie was. His little aphorisms for life were spot on and so touching and truly a roadmap to a meaningful and happy life. Enjoy!...less

Don't worry, no spoiler here...but I did want to add my little opinion before the blogging world opens up with a tizzy of ideas and opinions. :) LOVED IT! (Hence the 5 stars!) Granted, the whole story needs to looked at for what it is...a fun, fantasy-riddled love story that far surpasses reality. :) Keeping that in mind, then I have nothing to complain about in this book. I liked the feeling of closure I have about every major character. There were tons of twists and turns I never saw coming, some might be a little far-fetched...but it IS a book about vampires and werewolves, so I can't really accuse it of being not-realistic. :) All in all, I'm very pleased with how Stephenie Meyer ended the series and even though I knew it had to end, I'm a little sad to say goodbye to all my favorite characters. :)
After reading some other reviews from people who hated it, I have to make a few more statements (still non-spoilers) here...the characters have changed a lot from the first 3 books (trust me, I re-read them in preparation for this book) and Bella, Edward and Jacob have really evolved to be nearly unrecognizable...but isn't that part of what makes a good book? I think it would have driven me insane if Bella were whiny, Edward over-protective and jealous, and Jacob lovesick and angry all the time. FORTUNATELY, they move past that. :) ...less

Interesting novel about a group of friends thrown back together when one of them tragically dies. I enjoyed many of the characters, but I'll warn you that it's quite sad in many ways...very realistic in the heartaches and struggles these friends work on. I was also really sad to see a few of the relationships not work out, but a nice quick read....less

I decided to read this book because I was hoping it would be as funny a look at early motherhood as another book I enjoyed (The Bright Side of Disaster). Unfortunately, it wasn't. It wasn't horrible, but I felt like I didn't really connect with the main character and her desire to try and turn her life around was too forced. I really liked her boyfriend though and I enjoyed watching their relationship and how much he adored her, but I got sick and tired of her taking him for granted for the first 3/4th of the book. Anyway, if you want to laugh at the funny things you do out of sleep exhaustion, read The Bright Side of Disaster instead of this....less

I read this immediately after "Bookends" and LOVED IT. I really connected with the main character as I remembered having the same conflicting emotions in my head while back in the dating game. I also enjoyed the message it gave, very "Austenland" in that reality never matches the fantasy, but that's okay. We can deal with imperfection in life. I also loved the fact that it showed Lucy's relationship with her boyfriend thoroughly, beginning to end, and they didn't just magically get together on the last page and leave you ticked off that you never got to see them REALLY interact. I'm not saying whether they get together in the end because you see the highs and lows of their relationship, but it was a much more realistic relationship than many I've read about. The book was generally clean with the classic English use of the f-word throughout, but fortunately not overwhelmingly so...just be warned. Anyway, I really recommend this book as something fun! (p.s. a lot of people hated the fact that it used a time machine...too unrealistic/cheesy. Yep, it's unrealistic, it's silly, but that's what the entire book is...so I still thought it was fun to read. Perfect for summer:))...less
