This was a really, really good book. I have been thinking about it non-stop since I started it and I'll be thinking about it for a long time.

Another reviewer said that "Marriage, and what it takes--and takes out of you--is the theme of this book." I wish I had read this book as a newlywed, although I'm sure I wouldn't have understood what I was reading. But reading it after 12 years of marriage has been a good experience. I've been inspired by the things that Susan and Oliver did well in their marriage but I also realize that I'm making many of their same mistakes. On the whole, I've come away from the book wanting to be a better spouse.

I didn't give the book 5 stars only because I think I learn more and am more inspired by watching heroic, not tragic, characters.

This is my favorite book in the world. And for someone who can't pick a major or names for my children until a week after they are born, that is saying something.

This is one of those kind of books that you think about for days after you have finished it. It is one of those books that is more than entertainment. After I finished it I found myself thinking about how I could be better and kinder and happier with my own lot in life.
