I will be completely up-front with this. I HATED the original Austen "Sense and Sensibility." Both the book and the movie and I love Kate Winslet, but I still hated the movie. Well this was a tricky, tricky book. Some aspects of it I enjoyed, some made me very uncomfortable and some parts made me laugh out loud. I do love true ghost stories, but I was uncomfortable with all of the talk about what death feels like. I think it is still a little too soon for me to be reading those things. Some of the parts were hilarious, although I tend to think that the author did not mean them to be. He would drift into explanations of the layers of the afterlife and visits by ghostly doctors and all I could think was how he managed to write it (and his editors read it) with a straight face. This was okay... it took some pretty big leaps with the original story. I would have liked to see it expanded a little bit; however, I did really enjoy the afterward.
