about this author

For the past 30 years I have taught English in a high-poverty high school in rural South Carolina, and every other week I share the voices of my students and my concerns about education and parenting in an op-ed column in The Charlotte Observer. "Notes from a Classroom: Reflections on Teaching" is a compilation of some of those columns. If you are interested in young people and education today, you may find that these columns also speak to you.

Kay Kay said: "A bit of a sophomore slump after an amazing first novel, but brilliant nonetheless. Foer takes on the aftermath of 911 with a poignant story of a boy's search for his missing father. Foer's lyricism is exceptional. "
