A surprisingly relaxed journey through a 1940's death row cell block through the eyes of a lawman by an unlikely author.
'The Green Mile' has goodness at soul-level that are at once exquisitely heart-wrenching and startlingly healing. While Stephen King accomplishes this frequently in dealing with fearful topics, it's nice to see him do this with the goodness in people as well.
'The Green Mile' is gritty, as would be expected from Stephen King (it is certainly not child's fare) yet somehow this is balanced by the unexpected: miracles and human kindness. One might conclude that this work is another knock-off of his "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" currently memorialized in the 1994 movie "Shawshank Redemption" starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.
It is decidedly not.
'The Green Mile' is a completely different story, compelling and fascinating through character portrayal as we have come to expect from our generation's most prolific author. Stephen King originally wrote The Green Mile as a series of six novellas which can be found at great variety of price at such stores as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, Borders, Books-A-Million, IndieBound, Powells.com, A1Books, Biblio.com, TextbookX.com, Beagle Books, Alibris, ValoreBooks.com, Books Liquidation, and Dualj.
