Our library is sadly Barker deprived. They do pretty good on the Leisure authors and many of the classics,

Jim Butcher's Codex Alera is my first choice. I also like the idea of Sabriel, by Garth Nix.

Jack Vance and Piers Anthony rock, and Roger Zelazny's magic, based on threads seen as colorful strands that floated in the air was beautifully done.
