"Based on our working definition of HF for the Witches, Plague & War Coursera class, this doesn't seem to be an historical fiction bk. I would characterize it as historical contemporary fiction. The subject matter of the bk, one of the children of Thomas Jefferson ("Clotel"), is still alive when this bk was published in 1853 in England. Jefferson died in 1826; thus his children w/Sally Hemings were still alive in 1853" Oct 26, 2013 03:09PM

"I am slow reading this because the author keep interrupting the story. This is a different type of HF than I have read before. I need to keep an open-mind and look at what "Waverly" has to offer instead of what it doesn't." Oct 22, 2013 11:11AM
