Thanks Eliza! I've never really reviewed a book but I wish I could've spent more time on this review. I did really love the book and it has stayed with me. I just can't get over that discrepancy. I feel like if you're place is easily recognizable because you provide place-specific details, then you have to honor that completely.

So glad you're enjoying Gabo! I haven't read any of his stories. You'll have to tell me about them when you start. I've only read 100 Years, Love in the Time of Cholera, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. I liked Love in the Time the least, but I still liked it. Do you happen to know if they actually changed the name of his birth town to Macondo? There was initiative a year or so ago but I never found out if it passed.

Well, that "currently-reading" tag is a tad misleading. I started it and have not been able to continue it given everything else. It's not part of my study plan, though I will be reading Krik? Krak! this semester. Just got it in the mail and read the first paragraph of the first story--WOW. Can't wait to tackle that. For now, I'm reading Drown by Junot Diaz and am freaking over annotations. Have you started them? I miss you too! And your happy socks. :)
