Recently unearthed this from an old box of books I had. Basically just a quick and easy children's read of dinosaurs. It's ok, I suppose, but I have far better children's dinosaur books than this. I think the only thing of note is that it shows you how to pronounce the names given. Unfortuantely, there's not very many names in the book and they were all easy names to boot, though I suppose for kids, Rhamphorhynchus or Archaeopteryx would be tough (I know Archaeopteryx was for me when I was a wee one)....less

This was one of those books where I just really had no idea where it was going. It's not that it took me by surprise at every turn of the page, but it was more like I was a deer in the headlights - just what the heck is going on here!? I'm fast becoming a huge fan of PJF, but this was just...strange?
Unfortunately, I think the first half of the book dragged and it took me a bit to get through, but the second half picked up nicely and quickly became a rapid read. However, this would probably not be one by Farmer that I would avidly recommend to anyone looking to try the author out....less

Having only ever known the legends of Robin Hood from movies (i.e. mostly the Disney animation, and no, Dake, I have never seen the Kevin Costner one, but have sure heard that putrid Bryan Adams song more than enough times in my life), I have really never known much of the legends save what everyone knows: the basic characters; how Robin split a shaft in twain and so on and so on. There is so much in this book, which from what I've read and come to understand, is one of the better takes on the legend, that as written by Creswick, and is indeed very good. Of course, having never read any other versions, I'm obviously going to be biased towards this version.
Nevertheless, the plethora of characters beyond the basic Robin o' th' Hood, John Little Nailor, Marian, Tuck of Copmanhurst and so on, there's so many other interesting characters among the Merry Men of Sherwood that are introduced, each containing their own quaint and comedic personality: Much the Miller, Middle the Tinker, Midge, Old Warrenton, Stutely and so on.
The compilation of stories and adventures is very much in line with the legends of King Arthur; small little snippets of daring and chivalry, and most importantly, excitement. In the end, I found this to be a most enjoyable book and have been left to wonder why I let this sit on my bookshelf for nearly ten or fifteen years before I finally decided to read this....less

"What's cool about this is there's some really detailed architectural information in here - i'm talking about stuff that kids wouldn't have a clue about, plus the ink drawings are very well done.
