I took a chance with this one and missed. This book was so disappointing. I got it because the jacket had Neil Gaiman raving about it and comparing the author to Kurt Vonnegut. The narrative and plotting is completely juvenile..it reads, at best, like a video game plot or an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The characters motivations are arbitrary and shallow. The character presentation is based mostly on how they look and what they wear and we're supposed to be impressed by that alone (e.g. Dominil the werewolf has white hair and wears a stylish black leather coat and is "serious", therefore I'm supposed to be compelled *yawn*. Thrix is a blonde werewolf..no really, she's blonde omg WOW! Everyone is, like, tewtally impressed with her. Blonde is totally cool omg... did I mention she's an Enchantress? omg..she must have racked up a bunch of experience points!). Also a lot of product placement (Moonglow has a Macbook! Now I really care what happens to her!) and name-dropping of pop culture figures and bands (Kalix listens to the Runaways, therefore I have great insight to her soul and I feel her pain...she likes laudanum so she's like totally hard-core omg) The only reason I was able to finish this book was because I paid $15.95 for it. I was too cheap to just throw it out or use the pages for origami. Kurt Vonnegut?! OMG puh-lease whatev!...less
