I found this to be a pretty entertaining novel. A recent college graduate gets a job at a Wall Street investment firm and quickly learns that not only is it not as glamourous as it sounds, it's an especially tough industry for women. She learns a lot...more

I grew up with the M*A*S*H tv show and loved it, as well as the movie. So it was only natural that I read the book they were all based upon. Prior to reading this I hadn't realized the author was himself an Army surgeon in Korea during the war, and w...more

Although this is a highly-acclaimed fantasy book I didn't get into it the way some others have. It has a rich an d complex plot, but at the same time I thought the story just dragged on too much. If these 766 pages had been edited to a tight 400 or 5...more

While classified as "fantasy," this novel is not the "swords and sorcerers" sort of fantasy one might expect, but rather, a novel that takes place in a mildly fantastical world. I picked it up because it was highly regarded, and while I don't feel th...more

I confess that I had never heard of this book, or the movie which was made of it, until last week when my mom told me she had read and liked it. I'm very glad I did read it.

A fictional tale taking place in WWII-era Germany, The Book Thief is the stor...more

Fifth in a series. In the previous Incarnations books, the first chapter or two dealt with the mortal character, and how they transitioned into being an immortal incarnation. Here, the first 90% of the book focused on the moral character. I liked tha...more

A short but good book that tells you the basics of, you guessed it, attracting and feeding hummingbirds. The first chapter talks a bit about the hummers themselves, migration, nesting, etc. They're pretty amazing little animals!
