THis must be the 5th or 6th Paulo Cuelho book I've read and again there are themes and thoughts in the text that make you face yourself. Okay so I've never contemplated suicide but some of the thoughts on the mundaneness and repetiteness of daily life hit home, and even if the story is a bit thin, the concepts and internal conversations it brings up all add up to a bit of healthy self examination. The ending left me hanging to' it just seemed to run out of steam.

Another little book of daily thoughts and truths from Kahlil Gibran - alot of this can be found in his other works but that doesn't detract from the messages - sometimes it takes a few readings of the same thing in different places to get the message embedded - pocket sized but full of wisdom

Wonderful, from the unusual narrator to the haunting descriptions of life in the poorer part of a German suburb in WWII. This story gently takes hold of you and keeps you gripped to the poignant end - Can you guess I loved it!

A simple story of good Vs Evil, right pr wrong choices, the effect of greed on otherwise "good" people; but it's Paulo Cuelho so as always there's a personal message - a challenge to every reader to put themselves in the postion of the main protagonists. Excellent story - hollywood ending spoiled it a bit though.

Like a sudden and total exhalation. There's no word for the feeling or the sound butthat's how it felt to finish this masterpiece. Ellory can paint a world with his words that the reader finds instantly familiar and comfortable despite it being completely foreign to them. I could feel the oppressive Georgia summer, the dry heat and the despair of the main character flowing from every page - brilliant, I'd recommend this to everyone!

Well not what I've come to expect from Paulo Cuelho. The pilgrimage was a story of self discovery and unlocking inner knowledge but all through the book there was a positivity that made the reader want to know 'what next' and almost walk the road with him. This however, had a constant air of defeatism and negativity about it and seemed to struggle in the middle to maintain any momentum. I'm a big fan of PC but I'm only glad I didn't come to this one first before 'The Alchemist'or I'd never have read another and that would be a shame!

Some of the poems are also in The Vision but that aside this is the usual soul touching prose I've come to expect from the wiriting of Kahlil Gibran. This time though a little more tongue in cheek and having a gentle nudge at the establishement in some of the stories and poems.

Like others from KG the language sometimes is not modern and therefore takes time to read. This is only 57 pages long but it sings to you from page 1. I've never read any ofKahlil Gibrans books without finding in them a little gem of obvious but profound truth. Just read it and let the words wash over you and permeate your soul. I'm not going to tell you the single profound thought in this one that touched me. Read it and find your own.
