Charming book. I read a bit of it in October before I had to put it down for the month of November to work on my own book. Picked it up again December 1st and laughed my way through it.

I really don't know how to explain this in a way that will do it justice. A gay man and his partner move from the city to the middle of nowhere and try to survive without the luxuries that they had been used to. All the misadventures are hilarious as they battle with nature, the snow, and each other.

The only part I would have liked more of would be a deeper understanding of what Gary was going through.

Hope to pick up his other books at some point, because the humor in the writing is a real page turner!

Sad to say, I was a little disappointed in this book.

Maybe it was just my lack of being able to suspend my disbelief (like when the narrator proudly announces to the reader that he and his friends are all licensed divers).

Yes there was conflict, but it was all resolved way too easily. And the odds that something like this could ever happen? Nil. Not once did I think that something bad was going to happen to these kids. It was lacking suspense, which is something I crave.

The writing was great, as always, and I look forward to the next Brent Hartinger book, but this one bordered on ridiculous for me. Sorry!

    			  194
I've been reading Chris Crutcher's books for over 10 years now. I've always loved his writing. This book is like three stories in one, incorporating some of his characters from past books. I wish I remembered them enough to make their stories a little more interesting.

The first two were okay reads, but could have benefited from being a story in themselves with a bit more plot. They seemed to short to really take off.

But the last one...wow! It was riveting, and I really never expected to run across glbtq themes with this author, so that was a nice little surprise. The chapter starting on page 194, told from the pov of Matt Miller, a level-headed Christian, about what is going on with one of his classmates, a openly gay black genius with a target on his back---I wanted to cheer and hug someone...so it was probably a good thing that I was alone at the time.

I had to reread the dustjacket to remind myself of the first two stories, the last one really blew them out of the water!

These books are always fun. Max makes a great narrator and her personality really shines through. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star is the ending...It was just too far-fetched---I know, I know...the whole series is far-fetched. Took me out of the moment with my large eye roll.

I read this last month sometime. It didn't really stay with me, so I can't remember too many of the details. I have read other Graphic Novels before, and I am used to being able to quick-glance at the pictures, read, and move on. This one wasn't like that.
The storyline was a little...blah. Cliche. Nothing outstanding. And the art...it was good, but midway though following a crisis, the one guy changed his hair color and hairstyle to look like another guy, and the drawing totally looked like the other guy. Got too confusing.

Best to just read this one for the smut ;)

This was absolutely hilarious! Awesome first book!

Story of an overweight teen who is horrified when 'his nipples pop out' and spends the whole book taping them down so that no one notices. Oh, and they talk to him, too!

Told first person POV, and Peter's voice is nailed perfectly. The way he thinks and talks is so true for a person Peter's age.

Toward the end, Peter was working on losing weight. My only complaint is that we never fully got to see him try and see if he was successful. Screw if he lost anything, I just wanted to know if he did. It was something that I was hoping for from the start, so I was a bit disappointed.

As cracky as this book sounds, it is a really entertaining read!

I read 50 pages. It was okay, but nothing remarkable enough to keep me reading. It is set in the south, and the language and accents are clearly heard in the text. Sad to say, it is tripping me up quite a bit.

Wish I had the time and the drive to read more of this. Looks like it could be promising!

I am a little disappointed. While the writing is excellent, the storyline wasn't nearly as engaging as the previous book of his I read.

While lots of story/plot/history is normally good, this was just too much. For awhile, it almost seemed like a history book, touching lightly on every event from the war to AIDS to present. Maybe the fact that I knew most of this and the history part of it didn't teach me anything?

The main character, Ned...I kinda hated him until the last 3rd of the book. Strongly disliked might be a better term. He did nothing for me.

I do like who Ned turned out to be by the end, better for all his experiences and finally settling down (the flashes of him in the present at the start and end of the book being my favorite parts).

Odd to have a book that the writing flows so seamlessly while it takes over a minute to read one page.

Looking forward to trying another of this author's books (a thinner one this time ;) )
