Kind of fun. A bit disappointing towards the end. Traveling the Orient Express to Istanbul was amusing. The contrast between the very straight nephew and the former very wild wicked aunt was a neat set up and perfect for lots of laughs.

A rather weird and quirky tale that was interesting enough to finish but really had little to truly recommend to others. Well written and fairly concise but just not much to my interests. I hesitated between 2 or 3 stars.

Very weird but quite enjoyable. Lots of wonderful one liners that are strange but fun. I have read and enjoyed most of Gaiman's works but missed earlier editions of this work. Excellent "Alice in Wonderland" urban fantasy type adventure. Very creativ ...more

A really sweet book in many ways. It had its brutal moments describing the whale hunt but overall it was a delight. The description of the life and loves of a small coastal community in New South Wales was wonderful. The book may appeal more to woman ...more

The first 2/3 of the book were acceptable, but the last part was weak and very disjointed. A not very well constructed fantasy. I don't think these authors recent writing is nearly as good as their first books. The hero Pendergast is not well portray ...more

Enjoyed the locale and the colorful characters of San Francisco. Lots of humorous quips. The Zen buddhist parts were new to me but not all that interesting. The story seemed a little weak in parts but certainly had lots of twists.

Kind of uneven. Not humorous like the Flashman books but fairly light. I enjoyed the time and place.
Most of the characters were interesting and I always enjoy most of the sea scenes. The sea battle was kind of weak. As was the ending. The love intere
