I was looking for a fun, cozy mystery. But this turned out to be really tough to slog through -- I kept thinking longingly of the laundry that awaited folding. It says it is a "Christian mystery". I'm fine with the religious aspect, but man is it PREACHY. Also, where is the mystery? With everyone doing all that praying, and the author clearly not being ironic in any way, of course it will all tie up perfectly at the end. I gave this book 5*. I am sure most of you would not agree (it is hardly literary in any way) but it was well-written and a fun read and exactly what I was in the mood for. I almost never give 5*, but I guess I'm in a holiday mood!

I quite liked this. Again I am left wondering how much of the historical part is true -- I don't know anything about Guernsey. If it is true, it is fascinating! I also like the structure of how the book is put together -- clever without being cloying.

It took a while for me to get into it, but then I thought it was great. ]]>
