I am never going to finish this book. I was watching the first episode of Michael Palin's Around the World in 80 Days last weekend and as he's packing his wife rags him for trying to pack all the volumes of Proust's In Search of Lost Time. His response? "It's the perfect opportunity to try to get past page 8." Amen, Michael. I'm actually past page 8, more like 48, but I think I've read those first 48 pages once a year every year for 5 years now. Then I set it down and by the time I pick it up again I don't remember what's going on. If I ever knew to begin with, which I doubt. This will likely be a life-long quest for me. I guess I join good company if Mr. Palin was at all serious. Heck, he's probably read them all twice through.
