My mom had recommended this book to me at least 2 years ago. I finally got around to reading it, and it was while I was traveling in Burma. It's written by a journalist and so the attention to detail and sources he went to for information and quotes are just overwhelming. He took pieces from years apart, people spread apart and an unsolved story and somehow wove a story together of it all. It's a terrific book for anyone interested in wine or mystery. In my eyes, this is a bestseller.

What a strange book. My friend gave this to me in Thailand. She had been carrying it with her on trips but never got around to reading it and I traded my copy of Twilight to get this one from her. I would recommend this book to the right person. It's really great writing and story telling and a tragic story of trying to put your life together when the pieces that you're putting together all come from terrible memories of a youth wasted. Yet, I'm oddly glad I read it, it's definitely out of genre for me and gave me a good shock a few times with graphic details so if any of this sounds interesting to you, check out this book.

I thought I could use a mindless thriller and picked up this book on a used bookshelf in Koh Tao, Thailand. But I really thought this book was terrible. I thought James Patterson was a better writer than this, but I can't say I've read other books of his before, maybe it was just name recognition. So I don't really recommend this book unless you're stuck on an island, like I was, and in need of something to get you through a 4-hour ferry ride.

I should preface that I actually like crying at the end of a book so Anne Tyler is my kind of author because she never leaves with a dry eye. She is an incredible author and this book really unleashes emotion within society about our place and who we are vs who are supposed to be that made this a page-turner to the end. I found it in a used book stall in Bangkok, Thailand - you never know what you're going to find when you're traveling and that's one of the best parts about picking up books on the road.

Found this on a used book shelf in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was a page-turner and the perfect book to get through in 2 days in between other heavier books. I kept looking up and thinking "ah, young love." Because really the longing and the teenage drama, well it was well written for what it is - and I can see how people are obsessed with reading the other books in the series.

This book, winner of the Man Booker prize, was one of the best books I've read in all of 2009. It's wonderfully written and poses questions about how we all see ourselves and how society views us and how very hard, sometimes near impossible, it is to break free from those chains and become better versions of ourselves. A must read.

I had always wanted to read this book, another great find on the bookshelf of an expat friend of mine. I find meaningless violence very disturbing and to that affect was shaken by the true tale in this book, but Capote is a once-in-a-lifetime writer and I'm happy I can now say I've completed this novel of his.

Muhammad Yunos is the ultimate inspiration to me. I really love and respect what he is about and his words drive passion within me to continue my mission in the world. An excellent practical book outlining what a social business is, why they are important and why they are the future of capitalism.

While in the Philippines I made an ex-pat friend with a great bookshelf and borrowed All The King's Men to read for the third time in my life. Once in high school, once in college and once now. This is one of the top five favorite books I have ever read in my whole life. It's not often an author can write with such description and vividness that after one sentence or paragraph you just want to stop and put the book down and savor what you've just read. That might sound melodramatic, but it's true. Read this book if you haven't read it before. If you've read it before, read it again. I'm thoroughly obsesses with Robert Penn Warren.
