So it was nice to finish up the genesis of shannara series. I thought this last book was what it ought to be...the wrap up of several different story lines. There was one fight scene that I wish had been better. The final confrontation between Michael and Findo Gask was a total DUD. I thought it should have been more like the fight scene between Angel and Delloreen - which was way cool. You could totally picture this young, latino woman fighting off the monster with just her grit, determination, ingenuity, raw strength, etc. etc. Especially given that Terry Brooks sets you up for this confrontation from the very first book...you'd want a lot more FIGHT than what he gave us for Michael and Findo's fight. I'm curious now to read the book in the Shannara series that directly follows this one. I'd like to see how the survivors learn how to live together, and I'd like to see what remains of earth.

Its a handy cookbook when you just can't figure out what to feed your kid. The recipes are easy and thus far have turned out well. An-Li likes the mini-meatballs recipe. I'm going to try the pumpkin stew recipe next.

I'm enjoying this series by Terry Brooks - the Genesis of Shannara. I've enjoyed how he weaves together the fantasy world of elves, demons, and magic with a "normal" human society and thus putting together the post-apocolyptic world. Can't wait for the last book in the series (the gypsy morph) to arrive at the library. One thing that I'm still not sure I buy is the whole concept of the gypsy morph. I find it....lame. It doesn't wow me in anyway. I like the heroes to have fought hard, learned much, and struggled through life. This magical being that just "poof" comes into existence and is somehow the most potent threat to the bad guys .... its such a let down of a protagonist.

I enjoyed Eragon and to a lesser degree, Eldest. I'm afraid that Paolini is falling into the Robert Jordan trap of putting in too much detail about the characters' relationships and their dialog. Paolini originally said that he would finish the series in three books, and now he says that he just can't do it justice in three and is extending it to four. I get the sense that there is also a $$$$ element in this decision, since he has made huge amounts of money on this series and only stands to make more money by dragging it out to a fourth book. All that being said, I did enjoy Brisinger. I especially liked learning more about the Urgals, who are a cool race. However, I got frustrated with Paolini's attempts to describe how they engage in mental fighting as well as how they fight with magic. Its hard to describe something that you can't see, and I don't think he did a very good job of it. hmmm... maybe I didn't enjoy the book that much since I seem to be complaining a lot
