I read Gone With the Wind when I was in high school, and I was frustrated with the end of the greatest American love story I'd read. So when I saw the book on my mom's friend's bookshelf, I didn't hesitate to borrow it. I needed to know what happened with Scarlett and Rhett... it couldn't be over just like that!
And while sequels are usually not well received by the general public, I think Scarlett did justice to its characters. Margaret Mitchell's novel is a masterpiece, but I think Alexandra Ripley did a great job as well....less

When I was in my 2-3 year of college, I decided I was going to read The Bible. I got sidetracked after Genesis… Ha ha ha! My grandmother asked me if I was crazy for wanting to read it. She was a very pious woman, with an amazing faith and a strong respect for God. But she told me “The old testament is too violent, and I think Moses was a little cuckoo.”* - I know she was joking, but my mom almost flipped on her chair and went “Mother!” He he…
Years have passed and I’ve read The Bible “au besoin” when I’ve felt like it, and when I have had the need for words of comfort. I rely on the Psalms mostly for their encouraging message of God’s wisdom and kindness. I have turned to the word of God in moments of despair and doubt, and I’ve always found answers to my questions. I guess that is what faith is about. The Bible was written by men who claimed to be inspired by God. I am not the one who question that, and although I believe many people have distorted the scripture, my Christian faith relies upon it.
Sorry for the discourse there. I just wanted to introduce the issue because I’ve been looking for a Bible in English for months. I’ve seen a few really nice ones, but looking at the prices makes me want to cry. Then there is the issue of the print which makes me crazy sometimes because it’s too small. And then all those thou, thee, thy… I wanted plain English. And I also wanted a Catholic version with 72 books, not 66. I found it at Borders after looking at every single one they had, and then I discovered it’s divided in 365 parts so I can read it in one year. The order is different from any regular bible I’ve seen and I was a little confused at first, but I understood the concept. A little bit of the OT, a little bit of the NT and Psalm every day. The deuterocanonical books are added at the end. I think I’m going to enjoy it.
If any of my readers are interested in reading the scripture, I recommend the One Year Bible from Tyndale. Only 20 bucks, large enough print, and an alternative way of reading it....less
