i just finished this, and i wish i could give it somewhere between three and four stars, but what can you do? this thing can be downright unreadable at times. it is ridiculously graphic and horribly vivid, which is obviously attributed to the fact that it's from the viewpoint of a numbing, cold, calculating serial killer.
the novel begins haltingly, speeds up way to fast, and then slows back down again, almost to a fault. maybe ellis meant to do this to show the eccentric, disturbed psyche of mr. patrick bateman, but it annoyed me at times. ellis' knowledge and description of mid-eighties wall street is awesome. the attention to each minuscule detail of fashion is beyond impressive.
not for the weak....less
