A really great book I couldn't give 4 stars to because at times the amount of information and detail he goes into about running a kitchen or restaurant which I was less interested in. Still a terrific read, Bourdain is a great writer.

The artwork of this book is utterly beautiful. The story is meandering and never quite gripping. This bound presentation is eye catching and worthy of any coffee table. I just wish the contents were as amazing. I love slice of life comics and this one never really gets off the ground. A shame because I wanted to love it so much. It's something I'll return to and read again, I just wish it told a more coherent story and was a little less simplistic.

If you're a fan of hardboiled fiction, film noir or any overly clever detective novels than look no further than the Donald Lam series. Lam doesn't really fit the mold of the classice Private Dic, but his scrappy attitude and lawful smarts get him both in and out of trouble, love and wealth. This is the firs book in the series where we meet and learn Donald's past. Good stuff that rushes a bit through the best material. Still really enjoyed it.

While I preferred the Hollywood ending more, and found the use of violence unnecessary, this is an terrific read. Kluge creates an stellar Rock Legend with soul, passion and an amazing reverence for pop-culture influences. It's fascinating to read through the mind of Frank the Wordman and see his naivete for racial music blossom into an understanding of the cross cultural musical pollination his friend found so important and unattainable. The ending is a bit of a let down after such an amazing journey, but I think the movie is a great companion to the hole the original denouement left.

Severely overwritten, nothing is left to the reader's imagination. This romance features numerous intensely selfish characters. I couldn't sympathize with anyone and found it hard to plod through this. Nothing gripped me and I found it a real struggle to finish it. There is an overuse of eroticism which was sexy to a point, but was mostly more selfish acts, ones I found despicable. There are far better books to be read.
