This was a fantastic book. A refreshing addition the sometimes self-absorbed world of Christian reading. This story appealed to me on many levels, not the least of which is my southern roots and growing up alongside black children my whole life. The author captured southern black dialect in print in such a way as to put Margaret Mitchell to shame. A wonderful friendship that the world needs more of . . ....less

"This was my first Francine Rivers novel and it is all downhill from here. She told this story so beautifully. It was raw in places--dealing with sexual abuse and prostitution--but a wonderful story of the unconditional love we all seek.

A friend recommended these to me-- although I don't do Christian romance (I think it's rather sappy). It's about far more than romance, although that is the theme throughout the series. Hadassah is a brave soul in 1st century Rome and we can learn a lot from her. My biggest fault with this author is that she relies too heavily on the same old vocabulary (can anyone say "sardonic"?) and that part got old quicky. However, if you can overlook this minor detail, you'll enjoy Hadassah's pure heart and wish you were more like her....less

"One of my personal favorites is Pride and Prejudice. I've read so many variations and sequels I cannot count them. This was entertaining--not earth shattering -- but clean,light-hearted fun.
