This is my kind of book. Two seemingly unrelated tales that intersect at a point in history. The story of Marconi and the development of "the wireless" and most importantly ship to shore and transatlantic wireless along with the tale of the second most famous murder case in England. The stories weave two and fro throughout the book. This is non-fiction, not a novel. So for some it might be a little dry. But it kept my attention! It isn't as spellbinding as Larson's Devil in the White City or Isaac's Storm...but it is still very interesting. ...less

"Very interesting stories of 4 nineteenth cnetury women who led unconvential lives out of choice or chance or both. Why had I never heard of these women before?

The book is told mostly through the eyes of Rasputin's oldest Daugher Maria and centers on the last few weeks before Rasputin was murdered. It is just a small "keyhole" glimpse into the time, the politics of the era, and the man who was Rasputin. I didn't like it as much as the Kitchen Boy and I'm not exactly sure why...perhaps because it had such a narrow focus. Perhaps because I'm not nearly as fascinated with Rasputin as other Russian historical figures. But it was a fast paced book that was a good summer read. ...less
