This was alright. There were a few neat ideas Waid tackled, like how a Lois Lane-like character might react differently to learning a Superman analog has been masquerading as Clark Kent under her nose. Still, I couldn't really get into this book. The art, while serviceable, isn't anything that struck my fancy. The story has some neat moments, but I just never bought into the Plutonian character. But people seem to love this book, so what do I know?
There are things I think I would like about any Dan Brown book, since they're all the same, like the scene where Langdon is teaching class imparting all kinds of neat-o information about whatever the book's subject is about.

However, this is another Dan Brown book that reads like every other one I've read (complete with sexually confused, yet physically imposing whack job). If this is the first one you try, you might think it's awesome, but I got bored with this one pretty quickly. Sure, the opening stuff ropes you in, like every other Dan Brown book does as you're trying to figure out what's going on, but then when you get into the meat of the book? Snore-fest.

I got 3/4ths of the way into this, but couldn't finish it.

The art is in this is beautiful, and there are some really wonderful wordless sequences in this trade that showcases the power of Terry's art, but unfortunately the overall story is kind of blah.

If my library gets future volumes in I'll check them out just to see the art, but this series isn't doing it for. Part of that could be the time between when I read the first volume and this one. Maybe I lost the plot?

There was a time when I was in love with this series. Now, I just like it. I think my biggest problem is I don't really care about these characters all that much anymore. They could live or die, it's whatever. It's still fun to follow them around though, cause, zombies and all.

I really did love this line from one of the new characters. "The thing about smart motherfuckers is that they sound like crazy motherfuckers to dumb motherfuckers." So subtle.

This book is deceiving. You would think a book about a young Magneto trying to survive in Nazi controlled Auschwitz would be one thing, but it's totally not that thing. This is a straight up story about a Jewish family being beaten and abused at every turn, yet still finding a way to persevere. This isn't the most original story, but it is very well done. I give Marvel credit for putting this out, and not going all cheesy with Magneto making metal monsters to fight Nazis (which could have easily happened).

Even more cool is this book has lesson plans in the back for teachers. It didn't even occur to me that this book could be used as a teaching tool, but it absolutely could be. In the foreword, Pak goes out of his way to say all of the information in the book is factual, so I could see this being in the Holocaust unit of a middle school history class in the same way The Sound of Music or Schindler's List is used.

Also, the art is crazy good. But there were a few times I got a little lost in the storytelling, and wasn't able to tell just what was happening. That could be I wasn't being a careful enough reader, but that doesn't change the fact that a few pages and transitions lost me.
