Frankenstein is all about the dangers of trying to control nature and play God. It is hard to tell who is really the monster in the story, or if everyone really is. ugh I hated this book! There is not a single likable character in it! I *really* wanted to punch Stanley (and Stella for that matter because she's such an idiot). I forgot how much I love this book! Wilde explores the dark-side of human nature while still promoting his love for beauty, passion and experience. This is one of those books that I respect but don't enjoy. It is *really* dense, to the point that I had to stop myself from underlining and annotating almost every sentence. I found it easier to read the second time around and Conrad's style doesn't annoy me as much as it used to (especially when I found out that English was not his first language and he managed to put together such a well-written work!!) It definitely has some memorable scenes and lines (need I say 'the horror! the horror!') and its something that every English major should read a few times over. ]]>
