Hey Molly. Its a solid book, a quick (but not light) read, and though I get the sense that its considered one of Auster's lesser works, its likely considered so for the same reasons that I find it important: it feels small and intimate, there are no grand gestures of style, no sweeping philosophical or literary claims. The writing is precise and smart, the storytelling is most of all very controlled, you get a strong sense that the language, the physical expression of the story, is in fact secondary to, and perhaps purposefully obfuscating, the invisible forces that drive it.
