    			  A great account of London's 1854 cholera outbreak and how a lone doctor solved &quot;the most pressing medical riddle of [the] time.&quot; It is fascinating to read how hard work and scientific principles triumphed over disease in an age when it seemed too outrageous that microscopic germs could possibly be the cause of a human ailment. Though Johnson's narrative is sometimes quite good, this book is unfortunately about 100 pages longer than necessary. At least it's a quick read.

    			  A quick and fascinating read, I think this title should be on the bookshelf of every New Englander. Until recently I was unaware of the severity of the Cod problem. And until reading this book, I was unaware of how important this simple fish has been to the history of my region of the country. Check it out!

    			  I expected this to be an eccentric travel book, or perhaps a history book, but it turned out to be a treatise on the current state of nuclear politics. I feel like I have an unusually strong background in national security issues, but fortunately this title is also very accessible to any reader with a nagging curiosity about the world nuclear apparatus.

    			  Michael Pollan is a gifted journalist -- and that's what it takes to make a book about nutrition as compelling as this one. Those who have followed Pollan's New York Times Magazine articles (and the science news in general) will find nothing shocking among these pages, but don't let that discourage you from reading it. &quot;In Defense of Food&quot; is the closest thing to an accurate, level-headed Bible of nutrition that we're going to have for a while.
<br/>
