i'm not a Therapist but a novice explorer in the field of Meditation.

This book may also prove to be a valuable resource for all those interested in any of these areas - religions (eastern), mind & consciousness, science, mysticism, therapy etc.

Meditation may be a useful and valid treatment or simply for just general well-being. IMO, it is the least promoted way of life as compared to taking-a-pill culture with its high dollar value.

I think atheism is valid and even necessary for ultimate true belief, but in fiction it makes for dull reading. There's nothing interesting about not believing. Far more interesting is someone who believes and wrestles with his own sins and the world's dilemmas. This book does that, and Updike is no theological lightweight, which is why, theologically, it's a good read.
But it's also a good story. Sometimes he gets real bogged down in details and information. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the great critic Walter Benjamin said that we were becoming too overloaded with information, and that certainly occurs in Updike's books. But it's a forgiveable sin. His characters are always riveting because they're almost always dealing with genuine moral dilemmas. They, like us, make mistakes and have to live with them. And his sentences--an endless box of prose chocolates.
This guy's a real pro.(less)

Not sure how to classify this book - is it about Persuasion or Spiritual or even Sef-Help?

Seem to be 3 separate books (part 2 and 3 are better)

Wish Mr Taylor had elaborated more on the topic "guarding against overstimulation" instead of just 3 pages .......may be the topic for his next book.

Do visit his website, it contains a lot of material there too.

Mr Taylor seems to be sincere in wanting to change the world for the better (who doesn't if asked, but most don't care or donot pay attention)
