"i actually only read the first 8 or 9 stories, but i just can't bring myself to read any more. i just keep waiting for the punch lines, but they never come.
the only one i liked was "cannibalism in the cars."

i just re-read this one, and i loved it again.
my favorites are the pieces on britney spears, val kilmer, u2, and pretty much all of the hypotheticals. the short story at the end is pretty good too.
some of the pieces drag a bit, particularly the report on the north dakota rock scene, and his week of eating nothing but chicken mcnuggets.
overall, a very entertaining read.(less)

i read this book in one go today, while traveling from baton rouge to dallas.
i've owned this book for at least a year, but have been leery of reading it due to the bizarre cover art (which goodreads doesn't appear to have on file; it features a midget riding a wiener dog and carrying a nazi flag).
this cover art is strangely appropriate: mother night is the story of an american spy posing as a nazi propagandist who assumes his cover so effectively that after the war, he is more or less universally reviled.
it's pretty standard vonnegut, which means i enjoyed it. not his best, but worthwhile reading for the vonnnegut enthusiast. (less)
