    			  Clive Barker has created a world that is not only strange and unique, but creates a visual with his words and drawings as well. In this unique story we find the world of the Abarat is a series of 25 islands, one for each hour of the day and the 25th island which is time out of time. The main character is a young girl named Candy Quackenbush from a quite little town known as Chickentown. Nothing interesting ever happens in Chickentown but for Candy, things are about to change. I found this book to be a great page turner. Barker's language paints a marvelous image in your mind that is visualized ever so often by his own drawings. One of the remarkable things is how often the imagery from the reading matches the actual drawings. The story itself is riveting with interesting characters, a nail biting plot, and beautiful drawings. This is the first in a series that is to include a total of five books. I am eagerly and anxiously awaiting the third book to come out.

  	I find this an interesting problem. Like Jim mentioned, chat rooms can be much more offensive than reading a book. I teach middle school kids and I can say that Twilight has just about every girl reading. There are other series very popular at the moment which may have what some would call questionable content, I am not sure as I have not read many of the series. I did read Twilight, but lost interest and did not pursue the series. I think that as a parent, I would not put restrictions on my childs reading, but i will monitor what they read and have conversations with them about the content.

  	<em>Robin wrote: &quot;I really enjoyed Book Thief - I've only barely cracked Cloak of Magic.&quot;</em>
<br/>
<br/>Oh, I loved <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19063.The_Book_Thief" title="The Book Thief by Markus Zusak">The Book Thief</a>, was a break from fantasy but a great book. I thought Death as the narrator was awesome. Speaking of Death makes me think of <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/386372.Mort_Discworld_Book_4_" title="Mort (Discworld, Book 4) by Terry Pratchett">Mort</a>, totally in the other direction of Book Thief, just popped into my head.
