Description: The story begins with two college kids high on everything but life itself. They have a sweet gig, once a week they drive downstate to score dope from their dealer, a full-of-himself Cuban refugee called Manny, who, on this particular sun-scorched Saturday afternoon will be the last person of sanity they will ever encounter as they take a shortcut across an all-but-abandoned highway in Manatee County, Florida. It is 1971, but Manatee County remains stuck in the past and the 3,000 acres of snake-infested scrub pine that is the Bishop property, is a lost land made mean and vengeful by the encroachment of modernity. At least in Asa Bishop’s warped biblical psycho/furor that opens the door to Hell on earth for those poor unfortunates who venture past his homestead after the sun drops.
