Excellent book. One of the best autobiographies I have read. Thomas does a good job of describing his life from childhood to the present. You get insight into his feelings, his thoughts and his decisions during important cross-roads in his life that formed his character today. It is not sugar coated and he includes some of the bad things that happened to him as well as some of the poor decisions he made.
I would recommend this book to anyone, especially young adults who are about to graduate from high school or are in college. There is a lot to learn from Thomas and I can't think of a better role model.

This was my first Nelson DeMille book and I thought was OK. This was a quick read and probably good for the beach or a flight. It started out sort of rough for me but it got better as the plot developed and I got to know the characters. I had two main problems with the book that kept me from rating it higher. First, I felt DeMille was trying too hard to make the main character, John Corey, appear as a tough, hardened, macho guy. It came across as forced and I felt it could be dialed down a bit or shown through subtle actions. This continued throughout the book but I learned to ignore most of it as I read.
The second problem I had was the author's gratuitous description of sex scenes and sexual references. This happened mostly in the beginning of the book and, since I wasn't familiar with the author's work, I wasn't sure if I was reading a harlequin romance of some type for men. Since most of the graphic sex was confined to the beginning of the story I was able to forget about it as the plot unfolded.
Overall I thought the plot was good if not a little simplistic. Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum would have added some more detail, a couple of twists, and some complexity to the plot. Again, I think this would make a good quick summer read and I will probably check out at least one more Nelson DeMille novel. ...less

This book was just OK for me. The subject was fascinating but the book was entirely too long and detailed. Many details were repeated over and over again (I believe partly to remind the reader of details that were given 300 pages ago). There seemed to be a footnote every third sentence.
The authors obviously did copious amounts of research and may have felt that the claims they were making (that the mafia had JFK assassinated and set-up Oswald for the fall) required such a detailed account. I sometimes got the feeling though that the authors threw so much detail at you in an attempt to keep you from questioning some of the assumptions they made in order to fill in gaps and support their conclusions. ...less
