This is my first reread of a book I read 60 years ago. When younger I ignored the philosophical and historical discussions, not so this time around. In fact I rather enjoyed them and especially his views of war and of Napoleon. Of course his view of ...more

Excellent character development, well written. Somehow the right book at the right time, I really enjoyed the read. Highly recommended for mystery readers, quite contemporary although a 1995 copyright.

Imaginative, violent, advanced teenager stuff still appealing to an older guy. No character fully developed, but many well sketched. Books that sometimes revel in violence have less and less appeal to me. Good sense of humor.
