The first few chapters are fairly sharply focused on the dying of his father - his actual death is rather of a throw-away scene. Although I guess that rather reflects what often happens.

The rest of the book wanders fairly widely - success (or the lack thereof), why relationships last or don't, child being father of the man, looking for religion - middle age wanderings.

If Michael Steadman of 30something was a writer and in his 50s this is what his book would be like. I can't help but read, but I grow impatient waiting for the POINT.
