"This book is a coming of age story about a young Hasidic Jew who discovers himself through the secular study of Freudian Psychology. It's very insightful and I would recommend it to anyone.

Well, it all depends on the category. If literature, then definitely Italo Calvino, particularly Cosmicomics (gorgeous short stories) or Invisible Cities (prose poems/lyrical vignettes)or East of Eden by Steinbeck. If spiritual, Thomas Merton, or Jeanne Guyon, or I just read Richard Foster's book on prayer.
Also, I just remembered Blindness by Jose Saramango, inspired by Camus's The Plague.
