"If I stay. If I live. It’s up to me."

Giving this a two star rating genuinely hurts me. I adore Forman's writing, especially with Just One Day, she did an excellent job with the showing of the setting in Paris and even for that one chapter in the UK....more

Colleen Hoover, this is goodbye. I’ve read Hopeless, Losing Hope, Finding Cinderella, and Slammed—not one of those novels received a rating higher than two. Her books just doesn’t sit well with me, and Hoover had potential. I should have stopped read...more

Mon petit avis en français :

Franchement, je suis tellement déçue. Les années 20 m’intéressent beaucoup à cause de la musique, de la mode, du langage, et de l’époque en général. Par contre, je n’en ai pas du tout reçu. Enzo (un homme principal) était...more

Well, damn. Sins & Needles was a deliciously dark read.

I always complain about living in this era. I've always wanted to live either in the Roaring '20s or back in the Medieval Times (and I'm well aware of the struggles in those days, too). I co...more

DNF at 50%--I'm sorry, I couldn't force myself to finish.

I saved myself the torture by watching Le Hérisson, an adaptation of this. The film was marvellous, poignant and thought-provoking; The Elegance of the Hedgehog was odious, slow, and pretentiou...more

Why has it taken me so long to read this? What entertainment! Hilarious, dramatic entertainment! I'm sorry I'm gushing a little too much, but I was not expecting this to be so funny and good. After watching Alceste à Bicyclette (thank you again to a...more

Stacia Kane
“Readers have the right to say whatever the fuck they want about a book. Period. They have that right. If they hate the book because the MC says the word “delicious” and the reader believes it’s the Devil’s word and only evil people use it, they can shout from the rooftops “This book is shit and don’t read it” if they want. If they want to write a review entirely about how much they hate the cover, they can if they want. If they want to make their review all about how their dog Foot Foot especially loved to pee on that particular book, they can."

[Blog entry, January 9, 2012]”

Virginia Woolf
“Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.”
Virginia Woolf, A Room of One's Own

Tahereh Mafi
“I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”
Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me
