This book gives a pretty thorough overview of the handling dynamics of motorcycles as well as dangers that you are likely to face <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6288.The_Road" title="The Road by Cormac McCarthy">on the road</a>. This is a must read for anyone on a motorcycle. The author's work has been very influential on the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Keith Code's book is a manual for sportbike riders. Code covers the unique challenges to riding a sportbike as well as how to make best use of the dynamics of a high performance machine. Many of the techniques described in this book are most useful on the track - cornering, for example. You can't use all of the pavement on the street without getting close and personal with oncoming traffic. Still, the techniques in this book are easily modified to street riding. It's definitely worth a thorough read.

There's a reason why this is the definitive book of group therapy. Yalom integrates an impressive amount of research into a book that is extremely easy to read. His illustrations of the usefulness in switching between process and content in a group context have me eagerly awaiting the opportunity to lead my first group session. This is easily one of the most clearly written and useful books that I have read in grad school. I'm definitely a fan.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is a damned interesting read. As a motorcycle rider and occasional mechanic, I enjoyed the use of motorcycle maintenance in illustrating philosophical points. Pirsig has a clear and persuasive style when it comes to philosophical inquiry, but his sense of overall narrative lacks a bit. The book bogs down heavily in the middle without any real attention hooks to keep the reader engaged. For that reason alone it gets 3 stars instead of 4. It's worth sticking through the slow-going middle of the book as the defense of sophistry at the end is brilliant and had me literally laughing out loud. Well done!

Neil Gaimen is easily one of the best storytellers in the world today. His grasp of the myths of various cultures would make Joseph Campbell envious. I found American Gods to be an impressive read because Gaimen deftly weaves a rich tapestry of myth into the ordinary waking world. He does so with such subtlety and sophistication that I was truly enchanted. Be warned though, this is not a light book. Gaimen tells a very dark tale.

I first read this book in high school. It's been a long time since then, but Gateway recently came to mind. Luckily, the local library had a copy. This book is well worth reading if you're interested in the sci-fi genre. Pohl approaches the fantastic with a unique and all too human tack. This isn't your everyday Star Wars or Star Trek ripoff. Pohl manages to create a vision so unique that it holds its fascination 30+ years after it was written.
