I read the first three chapters and determined that this book just isn't my style. It's loaded up with snark, action, and angst. Jaz's retrospectives are heavyhanded. It seems like it would've worked better in the 3rd person rather than the 1st. And I got tired of "But I don't want to think about that right now." Then save that part of the internal monologue for later!

I see that another reviewer compared it to James Bond, and I'll agree with that. I'm not a fan of Bond, either. ;)

Hopefully this volume is an indication that the Aurora Teagarden series will continue to improve. I read this one literally in one sitting - I stayed up way too late just to find out what happened! I enjoyed the historical detail and the lore of the fairy court. The first third of the book almost lost me. I was pretty disinterested in what the two protagonists were doing - they seemed to be motivated purely by ambition, and didn't have much personality beyond that.
