I have to start by saying I loved this book, the symbolism and whole delving into masonic rituals was a great read. The four stars was because I felt a little odd at the end of the book like was the whole search worth it? I didn't really understand why it was all necessary despite loving the Journey of the book.

This is not a book that would have caught my eye--thanks Erika for lending it to me! This author has such a way with words, I really slowed down to enjoy this book. She takes you through her journey of change as her sons near high school and college years and she is realizing that life will change and does change so quickly. The basic idea to savor each ordinary day, the dinners, laughter, challenges of everyday life is really important. I need to buy this book and reread it.

I have enjoyed this series. Coming of age issues along with worries about finances, siblings, and funny things with alcatraz.

Liked this book but a little hard to follow at times with many different characters and plot turns. I read mystery novels like this as "no brainers" so thinking to hard isn't on my agenda with them! The story was interesting talking about civil rights marches and politics in Chicago. Good read!

This was a departure from James Patterson's normal action thriller genre. This was closer to historical fiction. The setting is the early 1900's when the situation for freed slaves is almost worse than slavery itself in the southern states. The Ku Klux Klan is supposedly outlawed but is alive and well, definitely makes me think about today's political climate. Although I lean conservatively in politics I have to say I think that racism is alive and well and this book made me think about my own issues with it.

I like this series of books. It is a coming of age story and teenage angst with a sci fi element to it. The characters were developed more in this book--I'm looking forward to the next installment.
