The story begins in Japan immediately after World War II, and follows the insecure but vastly talented Tatsumi as he becomes a manga star in the 60s. Along the way, we get glimpses at, and insights on, literary works from Dumas to Spillane and cinematic works from 'Dumbo' to 'Rashomon.' It's in a delicious format--a hefty 834-page graphic novel.
