the tag should say read by the hardest. I can't even give this ONE lousy star. Aside from the writing style well...NOT having ANY style, I'm pretty sure a LOT of the information was WRONG.
I am a fan of Pirate history, and I enjoy reading about one who is in some ways Local to my home (er..even though HONESTLY there ARE more interesting choices, in my humble opinion anyway), but THIS book was about as enjoyable and informative as a rock.

I was a little hesitant to pick this up because I knew how emotional the content would be. As it stands now, if I could buy one hundred copies of this and give them out to total strangers and friends alike, I would do it in a heart beat. Within the first 5 pages I was already close to tears, and by page 13 all the problems that I seem to find in my life suddenly didn't seem like problems anymore. And it's NOT one of those books that makes you feel like a total heel for daring to be alive, there is not ONE SENTENCE of complaint, but none of ridiculous Blue Mountain greeting card-esque happy thoughts either. It is, just simply, a frank and often subtly witty testemony to being very ALIVE. finally finished this. while not a light read (it goes a little overboard with scientific "data" at times), it was very enjoyable, and at times, a little heartbreaking. it never ceases to astound me just how deep the bonds animals can create go. a wonderful read.
And I really think elephants are amazing creatures! ]]>
