granted, I just picked it up and only looked thru parts, but the explanations and photos of the poses alone are worth getting this. I hope they make a sequel for some of the more popular poses they did not get to. God bless this old man that still gets into handstand 1/2 hour each day and had a really hardcore positive effect on western culture that most folks are unaware of.

Almost gave it another star for a perfect rating. Simply a very entertaining book. Some of Salvatore's musings via his characters are pretty darn heavy philosophy for what is usually such a shallow genre. Kinda like the Brothers Karamazov. Only way easier to read. And fulla dragons and stuff. And Pirates. If it had ninjas I mighta gave it the last extra star.

I have only read the first 1/5 of this book, so a perfect rating may be premature, but I really appreciate how the author breaks down the subject.

Its a book about martial arts in theory, history, practice, and includes specific biographical information as well. Its a perfect blueprint for one of those history channel things.

Most martial arts books are not written from the perspective of a historian, and vice versa. He also manages to avoid being too dry during subject matter that is, well, too dry.

Its also interesting to me because I do not know enough of Philipino culture in general.

Better than average writing for one of these "true crime" type of books. Details the mafia's influence over the garbage hauling industry in NYC, and the sting operation that basically brought it down.

I work in solid waste enforcement in NJ, so this was kind of interesting to me. And I was a garbageman back when this book started. I was hoping to see some names I knew, but did not.

I suspect the average Soprano's fan would not be as into this book as some others, and you could tell they tried beefing it up by name dropping as many famous gangsters as they could, but it was still well written and interesting.
