I came to this series via this book, which happens to be the back door. Enjoyable characters, but it is clear that there are established relationships that you don't have the background on. I enjoyed this one enough to try and track down some more. I'm an audio reader and the narration was well made.

This is one of the Hard Case Series. A friend clued me into the fact that this was a series way back when I read [I:]"The Colorado Kid" [/I:]by Stephen King, which I really enjoyed. Each is a tale (longer than a short story, shorter than a novel (about 6 hrs in audiobook format)) written by a different author. I figured I'd give the rest of the series a try. At first I thought "The Girl..." was very transparent, but the author had more in mind. The Whiskey Robber certainly was an interesting character and I can't help but think, had he been focused differently, what he could have accomplished. I 'read' the audio book which is narrated by the author and as usual this is not the best idea, yet there are enough other voices which adds appeal. Based on a true story about a Hungarian (actually displaced Romanian) robber who becomes a Folk Hero. A truly fascinating man and his tale is entertaining. ]]>
